One Week. One Reminder. A Whole Season of Smart Riding.

Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week Highlights Season-Long Responsible Riding

[Barrie, ON - February 6, 2026] - Snowmobiling in Ontario is built on passion, preparation, and people - and from February 9-16, those elements come together during Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week, a province-wide initiative led by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) in partnership with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and other enforcement agencies.

Ontario Snowmobile Safety WeekNow in its third year, Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week celebrates what safe snowmobiling looks like in Ontario - not as a one-week checklist, but as a season-long expectation shared by riders, volunteers, and enforcement alike. Timed alongside Family Day Long Weekend, Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week recognizes that many riders are out enjoying the trails with family and friends.

Ontario’s snowmobile trails cross forests, farmland, frozen waterways, and provide access to communities. Weather conditions can change quickly, and every ride is different. This week serves as a timely reminder that smart decisions, preparation, and respect for the trail system matter every time a sled hits the snow.

Throughout the week, riders will see a renewed focus on practical, everyday safety habits, including:

  • Checking current trail status before every ride using the Interactive Trail Guide (ITG)

  • Adjusting speed and riding style to match conditions

  • Carrying valid documentation, including a 2026 Ontario Snowmobile Trail Permit

  • Recognizing that enforcement is part of keeping trails safe and sustainable

  • Respecting landowners, volunteers, and the communities that host Ontario’s snowmobilers

While Ontario Snowmobile Safety Week puts an extra spotlight on safe riding, the message extends well beyond these seven days. Safe snowmobiling is not a moment - it’s a mindset that applies from the first ride of the season to the last.

“Ontario’s trail system exists because thousands of volunteers show up, day after day, in all conditions,” said Ryan Eickmeier, OFSC CEO. “Riding responsibly is how we show respect for that effort and for the shared spaces that make snowmobiling possible across the province.”

Riders are encouraged to plan ahead, stay informed, and remember that a great ride is one that ends safely - every time.
