OFSC Celebrates National Volunteer Week and Launches Year-Long Commitment to Ignite Volunteerism
Volunteer Proud and Strong Since 1967 - and Looking Ahead to What’s Next
Barrie, ON - As part of National Volunteer Week 2026 (April 19-25), the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs (OFSC) is proud to celebrate the thousands of volunteers who power Ontario’s snowmobile trail system - while also kicking off a renewed, year-long commitment to strengthening volunteerism across the province through Volunteer Canada’s Ignite Volunteerism initiative.
Since 1967, the OFSC trail system has been built, maintained, and operated by volunteers - a legacy built by those who are Volunteer Proud - and carried forward by a spirit we call Volunteer Strong. Today, that spirit continues to define one of the largest interconnected snowmobile trail systems in the world, made possible through the dedication of local clubs, landowners, and community partners.
This past season was one of the most memorable in recent years, with strong riding conditions across much of the province and peak availability reaching more than 28,000 kilometres of trail. Behind that success was a tremendous effort from volunteers who worked tirelessly through changing weather, increased operational demands, and the complexities of maintaining a provincial trail network.
“For many, the trails are what they see - but what they don’t always see is the effort behind them,” said Joel Brosseau, OFSC 2nd Vice President and Chair of the Volunteer Development Committee. “Our volunteers are out there year-round - brushing, signing, grooming, maintaining equipment, and working with landowners - all to create a safe and enjoyable experience for riders. National Volunteer Week is an opportunity to recognize that commitment, but also to remind people that there’s a place for them in it.”
The impact of that contribution is significant. For the first time, a recent economic impact study estimated the total monetary value of OFSC snowmobile club volunteer contributions at more than $16.4 million annually - a reflection of the time, skill, and passion invested into Ontario’s winter tourism economy.
As part of this year’s campaign, the OFSC is also opening the door for snowmobilers to take part in that recognition. Riders are invited to submit their own shoutouts - recognizing an individual, group, or club that went above and beyond this season. These submissions will be featured throughout the year, helping to shine a brighter light on the people behind the trails.

Through Ignite Volunteerism, the OFSC is proud to be part of a national movement to celebrate the power of giving back while helping to renew Canada’s culture of volunteering. It’s an opportunity to not only recognize the contributions of today’s volunteers, but to inspire new participation - supporting clubs with the people, tools, and capacity needed to sustain Ontario’s trail system for generations to come.
“Volunteerism has always been the backbone of this organization,” added Brosseau. “If you’ve ever ridden an OFSC trail, you’ve benefited from someone’s time. This is the perfect moment to say thank you - and maybe even consider being part of it.”
Throughout the week and in the months ahead, the OFSC will be sharing volunteer stories, shout outs, and behind-the-scenes perspectives that highlight the people who make Ontario snowmobiling possible.
