What is the Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator's License?

The Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s License is proof that you have successfully completed the Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Course provided by the Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs.

Students must be at least 12 years of age in order to receive a Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s License.

What are the eligibility requirements to take a driver training course and obtain a MSVOL - Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence?

To take the course and receive a Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL), you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be an Ontario resident
  • Be at least 12 years of age
  • Not have a valid or suspended Ontario Driver’s License

Anyone over the age of 16 with a valid or suspended Driver’s Licence can not be issued a MSVOL upon completion of the course. However, they will receive a Certificate of Completion. A Certificate of Completion is not a licence.

The course fee is $40.

Where/How do I take the course?

The course is currently only being offered online. You can access it through the OFSC website at https://www.ofsc.on.ca/driver-training/ or directly at https://www.snowmobilecourse.com/canada/ontario/.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Once you start the course, you will have a 72 hour window to complete it. If you need the timer reset, please call 1-866-499-7669 (assistance available seven days a week).

My course expired and I can't get back in. Now what do I do?

You have two options to reset the timer on your course:

  1. Call 1-866-499-7669 for immediate assistance seven days a week
  2. Email [email protected] and allow 2 business days for your request to be completed. You will receive an email reply when this has been completed.

I completed the course, where's my MSVOL?

To receive a Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL), you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be an Ontario resident
  • Be at least 12 years of age
  • Not have a valid or suspended Ontario Driver’s License

Anyone 12-15 years of age will receive their MSVOL online in their snowmobile course account.

For those over 16 years of age, we are required to verify their driver’s licence status with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario. If they possess a valid or suspended Driver’s Licence, a MSVOL can not be issued. Otherwise, a MSVOL will be prepared and mailed. This can take up to 2 weeks to complete.

How do I get a replacement MSVOL?

If you received your Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL) online, you can reprint the MSVOL from your account.

If you were issued a paper Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL), please submit the replacement licence form. There is a $7 replacement fee.

If you are under the age of 16, please allow up to 5 business days for your request to be processed.

If you are over 16 years of age, we are required to first verify your driver’s licence status with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario. If you possess a valid or suspended Driver’s Licence, a replacement MSVOL can not be issued. Otherwise, a MSVOL will be prepared and mailed. This can take up to 2 weeks to complete.

You will receive an email when it has been put in the mail.

How can I update my account information/snowmobile licence?

To update information on your snowmobile course account or you licence, please send an email to [email protected] and include the following information:

  • Your full name and date of birth
  • The required correction

If you received your Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL) online, a updated MSVOL will be sent to you.

If your paper Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL) has an error, please submit the replacement licence form found at https://www.ofsc.on.ca/driver-training/.  There is no charge for this change, however the original MSVOL issued needs to accompany the application form.

Please allow 2 business days for your request to be completed.  You will receive an email reply when this has been completed.

My child used my account to complete the snowmobile course but my name is on their licence. How do we fix that?

To update information on the snowmobile course account, send an email to [email protected] and include the following information:

Please allow 2 business days for your request to be completed. You will receive an email reply when this has been completed.

My Driver's Licence was suspended/taken away. Can I still get a MSVOL?

No, unfortunately you will not be able to obtain your Motorized Snow Vehicle Operator’s Licence (MSVOL) if your Driver’s Licence has been suspended or revoked. Can I drive on the trails in Ontario alone without a licenced driver with me?

If I plan to visit Ontario and ride the trails, do I need to have a MSVOL?
